Roman Holiday

  • The sad face picture is right after Chandee and I had an extremely close call with a pigeon and it's poop. Luckily, it landed just inches in front of us and only splashed our pants instead of a direct hit. Gross.

Well, we just got back from a 3 day adventure in Rome. There just are no words to describe all we saw in the "Eternal City". We saw the Colloseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basillica...it was all amazing. Just the feeling of being in a city that is thousands of years old was incredible. When we first arrived in Rome, we got settled into our hostel, which was very nice, and went looking for something to eat. We found a pizza place, sat down outside and just as we began to enjoy the wonderful food the skies opened up and it began to rain...hard. Luckily we were under an umbrella, so we were able to enjoy a Roman thunderstorm being only slightly damp instead of soaked. When it finally stopped raining, we took off in search of theColloseum, a sight we were all extremely excited to see. Let me tell you, we were not disappointed. It was amazing. The place was huge, I could not believe I was standing witness to something so monumental in human history. The next day we toured the Vatican Museum, which if you only spent 60 seconds looking at each artifact in the museum it would take you 12 years to see everything. It was huge, to say the least. My favorite place was the Sistine Chapel. It was breathtaking. To see it in person when I've only ever seen pictures was great. Michaelangelo was a genius and left behind something truly amazing. I could go on and on about all of the history I learned and saw, but I won't. To sum it up, Rome was a seriously incredible place and I am so lucky to have been able to go there. Tomorrow we are going to Cinque Terre, a beautiful place right on the ocean. We are staying there Monday night and will get home late Tuesday. We still have to visit Lucca and Sienna as well, so we will be busy up until the day we leave! I'll post a few pictures of our Roman adventures for you to enjoy. (When you see Chandee, you have to ask her how she feels about the buses in Rome...she'll have a very funny story for you!)
